Faceted Brownish Topaz From Brazil 15.18 Carats.
I purchased this topaz in early 2014 from an internet auction site. It was described as: "15.18 Carat TOP IMPERIAL UNHEATED TOPAZ From Brazil AAA" When I received it I was not disappointed but after some examination, I decided that it is not truly an "imperial" topaz. It lacks the pinkish orange undertones to fit that category. On the plus side is that it is well saturated and dichroic; the brown does have areas of a color closer to dark pink when the stone is rotated. I have a lot of experience with Topaz. This one has not been heat treated; if it had, it would have faded by now as I deliberately left it in a well lit area for several weeks last summer, etc. Happily, the it has retained it's saturation and color. It is eye clean and a high quality stone.
